JANESVILLE — The Rock County Medical Examiners Office has released the name of a 30-year-old man killed after a Feb. 11 explosion at NaturPak Pet in ÌÇÐÄVlog´«Ã½. A separate explosion March 18 killed two other plant workers.
The medical examiner named Gerardo Vargas Soto of Beloit as a NaturPak employee injured Feb. 11. He died at a hospital April 11 — two months after a steam explosion injured him while he was working at NaturPak.
The medical examiner announced the death after completing an autopsy Monday, saying the cause and manner of death are still pending. The medical examiner characterized the death as following an “industrial incident†at NaturPak.
The February explosion at NaturPak hospitalized two other people with severe burns, with one transported to a burn unit in Madison.
That incident and the March 18 explosion remain under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, ÌÇÐÄVlog´«Ã½ Police Department and the Rock County Medical Examiner’s Department. Alex Perkins of Rockford and Roberto Hernandez of Beloit were killed, with steam burns named as the preliminary cause of death, in the March 18 incident.
