JANESVILLE — A man and woman from Evansville were sentenced to prison Tuesday for child sex assault and drug crimes which were linked to a 14-year-old who took her own life.
Hunter Drefahl
Hunter Drefahl, 26, pleaded guilty to second degree sexual assault of a child and child exploitation. He was sentenced by Rock County Judge Barbara McCrory to 18 years in prison. He is to serve 10 years of extended supervision once his prison term is complete.
Alyssa Ahrens
Alyssa Ahrens, 20, pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a child and delivery of methamphetamines. She was sentenced by McCrory to 15 years in prison. She also is to serve eight years of extended supervision once her prison term is complete.
On April 6, 2025, a 14-year-old girl shot herself in her head after Drefahl and Ahrens had given the girl drugs for weeks, including methamphetamine, cocaine, THC and alcohol, according to a news release from the Rock County District Attorney’s Office. The two also recorded themselves sexually assaulting the teen.
The girl suspected the man and woman were sharing the sex videos they recorded or they were selling the videos, according to the news release. The young girl became so upset, she killed herself using Drefahl’s gun.
Detectives from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office investigated the teen’s death and gathered evidence indicating the abuse and exploitation by Drefahl and Ahrens. Evansville police officers and emergency medical personnel tried to resuscitate the teen after the shooting.
A crowd of about 100 people attended the sentencing hearing in support of the 14-year-old victim.
