EDGERTON – No one was seriously injured in a fiery crash on I-39/90 late Tuesday near Edgerton.
A spokesperson for the Wisconsin State Patrol said the crash involving two semis was reported at 11 p.m. at mile marker 166, 2.4 miles south of state Highway 59 near Edgerton.
One of the semis, that came to rest in the median, caught fire and was fully engulfed in flames as emergency crews arrived, as observed by a Gazette reporter on the scene. The second semi appeared to a Gazette reporter on the scene to have come to rest in the far-right northbound lane.
All southbound lanes were shut down for about 45 minutes immediately following the crash, the Wisconsin State Patrol spokesperson said. As of 1 a.m., the spokesperson said one southbound lane had reopened and traffic was again flowing in that lane. Meanwhile, the spokesperson said, one northbound lane remained closed, with traffic flowing in the other two northbound lanes.
As of 1 a.m., the semi that burned had not yet been removed from the scene, and an active crash investigation was continuing, the spokesperson said.
In addition to the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office and Edgerton Police Department, multiple local fire departments were on the scene late Tuesday into early Wednesday morning.
The spokesperson said highway signs were alerting motorists to traffic delays. She said the scene “was expected to be a work zone for the rest of the night.”
Sgt. Adam Zoch, with Wisconsin State Patrol, said all lanes reopened about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. He said the crash appears to have been caused by one of the semis striking a second, disabled semi as it was parked on the right shoulder of the northbound lanes.
