JANESVILLE — Max Dodson, who has served for the past seven years as executive director of Caritas Community Resource Center in Beloit, has been named the new executive director of GIFTS Men’s Shelter in Vlogý.
In a release Friday, the board of directors of GIFTS said Dodson’s hiring is effective July 1.
Dodson succeeds MaryAnn Raash who resigned in March after leading the organization since 2021. Mike Schoeder has since served as interim executive director.
“For me, it’s an honor to become the next executive director of GIFTS and it’s the next step in my faith journey,” Dodson said in a statement Friday.
GIFTS Men’s Shelter provides emergency shelter, meals, and support services to men experiencing homelessness in Rock County. Founded in 2008, it serves more than 150 men annually and offers programs focused on housing, employment, recovery, and life skills to help clients achieve stability and independence.
GIFTS also has a thrift store and a life recovery home.
Dodson brings extensive leadership experience in nonprofit management, the release said.
Under his guidance, Caritas achieved “remarkable financial stability and organizational growth, including building an operating expense reserve and establishing an endowment fund,” the release said.
“Dodson created a balanced revenue stream model that successfully engaged faith communities, corporations, civic groups, and individual donors, while also securing critical grant funding.”
“We are so excited to welcome Max to the GIFTS Men’s Shelter team,” Sarah Hawthorne, chair of the board of directors, said. “His proven track record in nonprofit leadership including fiscal stewardship, mission alignment and strategic planning, make him the ideal person to lead our organization into its next chapter.”
Prior to his nonprofit career, Dodson served honorably in the U.S. Navy, “where he developed strong leadership skills and a commitment to service that has defined his professional journey,” the release also said.
