MILTON — The Milton Common Council on Tuesday approved a $6 million budget for 2026.
The approved budget is an increase over the 2025 budget, which was $5.8 million.
The tax rate will be $7.28 per $1,000 of assessed value, an increase of $0.60 from last year’s rate of $6.59. That will lead to a tax bill of $1,977 on a $300,000 home. This is only the city’s portion of the tax rate.
The city will levy about $3.9 million.
Health insurance premiums went up by 3%, City Administrator Paul Hensch said in a budget presentation in October. That resulted in health insurance expenses going up by more than $12,000.
The capital project fund will have about $390,000, up from $343,000. Transfer to debt service will be about $725,000 up from about $682,000. Transfer to the library fund will be $383,000, up from about $365,000. Economic development will be $6,500, same as 2025.
The parks, recreation and celebrations budget will go down to about $274,000 from about $318,000. The health and human services budget will be about $25,000, up from about $23,000.
Public works will go up to just over $900,000 from over $853,000. Public safety is set at $2.4 million, up from just under $2.3 million. The city’s general government budget is over $999,000, up from just under $942,000.
Due to levy limits, the city could not raise the levy by more than about $153,000.
