TOWN OF FULTON — Two people are hospitalized with "serious" injuries after a fire destroyed a mobile home at Rock River Leisure Estates on Friday morning.
Lakeside Fire and Rescue Chief Randy Pickering said the fire department is not speculating on a cause, pending an investigation of what led a "park model" home to ignite at the campground, which is in the town of Fulton, just south of the Rock River at 530 E. Ellendale Road.
Pickering said the two people injured in the mobile home fire are now hospitalized at University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison. He said fire officials are focused now on speaking with one or both of them, if possible, as part of the investigation.
Local hobbyist Facebook groups who track emergency responder radio traffic indicated in social media posts Friday that exploded in connection with the fire.
Pickering would not comment on whether the fire involved an explosion.Â
"Until we actually get a chance to talk to them (the people injured) about what was going on inside the house, we are not going to talk (publicly) about a potential cause or anything like that," Pickering said.
He said the fire largely collapsed and destroyed the mobile home, and caused radiant heat damage to two neighboring mobile homes.Â
Fire crews from ÌÇÐÄVlog´«Ã½ jumped in on extinguishing the fire while paramedics from Lakeside Fire and Rescue worked to immediately attend to the two people injured.
Witnesses reported the fire at 9:15 a.m. Pickering said a "maintenance worker" at Rock River Leisure Estates pulled the people from the fire.Â
Rock River Leisure Estates is a privately-run campground that does not have fire hydrants. That required fire departments involved to bring in tanks of water.
