The Carolina Hurricanes have been looking for a long-term solution at its second-line center position. They're hoping they've found it with Logan Stankoven's play. The 23-year-old finished strong in his first regular season as an NHL center. Now he's had a hot start to the NHL playoffs with a goal in each of Carolina's wins during a first-round sweep of Ottawa. Stankoven says he's “not a finished product” and is still working to improve. Carolina is the Eastern Conference's top seed. The Hurricanes next face the Philadelphia Flyers.

Jessica Campbell, the first woman to be an on-bench assistant coach in NHL history, will not return to the Seattle Kraken next season. General manager Jason Botterill said Campbell's contract is expiring and she expressed a desire to explore other roles around the league. Campbell was promoted from the American Hockey League's Coachella Firebirds along with Dan Bylsma in 2024 when he became the organization's second head coach. She was retained after Bylsma was fired a year ago and replaced by Lane Lambert. The Kraken missed the playoffs each of the past two seasons and only qualified once since their debut in 2021-22.

Cam York's wrist shot in overtime gives the Flyers a thrilling playoff series win over the Penguins. York's excitement led him to toss his stick into the stands, adding to the celebration. The Flyers' 1-0 victory on Wednesday marks their first playoff series win in a full NHL season since 2012. Goalie Dan Vladar's 42 saves were crucial, helping the Flyers overcome a 3-0 series deficit. The win validates general manager Danny Briere's rebuild strategy. The Flyers now face the top-seeded Carolina Hurricanes in the second round, hoping for more playoff success.
