President Donald Trump won't be getting his wish, at least not soon. ABC says that it has signed late-night comic Jimmy Kimmel to a one-year contract. His previous multiyear contract had been set to expire in May 2026, so this will keep him on the air at least until May 2027. The network had suspended Kimmel in September following remarks made after GOP activist Charlie Kirk's assassination, but put him back on the air following a public protest. He continued poking fun at the president relentlessly, leading Trump to urge ABC last month to “get the bum off the air.”

ABC is in President Donald Trump's crosshairs this week. He attacked the network's late-night host Jimmy Kimmel in a post-midnight social media post, saying ABC should “get the bum off the air.” It came about an hour after a blistering monologue on Kimmel's show, beginning with nearly 10 minutes of jokes about Trump and the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Kimmel was suspended by ABC, then reinstated, two months ago following remarks about assassinated GOP leader Charlie Kirk. Trump and his team has also directed their anger toward ABC News for reporter Mary Bruce's questions at an Oval Office news conference. The White House said ABC News was a “Democrat spin operation.”

The commission that oversees Alabama Public Television voted to continue paying its contract with PBS. The decision came after a public backlash to the idea of dropping PBS. The Alabama Educational Television Commission voted without dissent to continue paying the contract with PBS that runs until July. It also voted to create a committee to explore the future direction of Alabama Public Television. A proposal to take the first step toward severing ties failed when no commissioner seconded the motion. The decision means PBS programming, which includes programs such as “Sesame Street,” “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,” “Antiques Roadshow” and “PBS NewsHour” will remain on the state channel at least for the immediate future.
