WIAA Division 1 softball sectional final: Oregon advances to state by beating Milton, 8-7, in 11 innings

Milton sophomore Morgan Bastian pitched 16 1/3 innings over the past two games, in two days, for the Red Hawks. Milton lost 8-7 in 11 innings Thursday in a WIAA Division 1 Sectional Final to Oregon.

OREGON — Milton scored five runs in the top of the seventh, but Oregon answered with three runs of their own, then won in 11 innings on Rachel Cook’s run-scoring single to defeat the Red Hawks, 8-7, to win Sectional 5 and advance to next week’s WIAA Division 1 state softball tournament in Madison.

“Those types of games that we just played in is what makes you coach and make you play in. It’s what it’s all about,†Milton coach Kurt Mussey said. “It’s hard when you come on the wrong end of them, but man those girls battled.â€
