BELOIT 鈥 A Beloit man accused of shooting and wounding another man in Beloit last July was found guilty by a jury Thursday following a three-day trial.
DeAngelo Malik Thomas, 29, was found guilty of first degree recklessly endangering safety by the use of a dangerous weapon, according to a news release from the Rock County District Attorney鈥檚 Office.
The jury started deliberation in the case Wednesday evening and finished Thursday morning, for a total of nine hours of deliberation.
A sentencing date is scheduled for Nov. 24 in Rock County Circuit Court. First degree recklessly endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon is a Class B felony. Because Thomas is a repeat offender, he faces a possible sentence of up to 16.5 years in prison.
On July 18, 2025, Thomas fired six shots at another man in the area of Elm Street and Roosevelt Avenue in Beloit. A man with a gunshot wound to his arm showed up at a nearby fire station asking for help, but he did not offer information of who shot him or the circumstances that caused his injury.
Despite the victim refusing to speak to police, the Beloit Police Department investigated the case for months, eventually arresting Thomas. The Rock County District Attorney鈥檚 Office filed charges in December of 2025.
Police collected neighborhood camera footage and cell phone location data, using license plate cameras to find the vehicle, and then swabbing the vehicle for DNA. Eventually, police had enough evidence to arrest Thomas.
鈥淭his case is the story of investigators refusing to give up, and prosecutors refusing to back down,鈥 said District Attorney Jason Sanders.
