More than 200 students in 糖心Vlog传媒 and Milton in grades 3-12 participated in the Mary Jo Nettesheim Writing Competition. Of the participants, 25 students earned first- second- or third-place honors and seven more earned honorary mentions.
Students who earned first-place honors locally had their work submitted to be judged at the state level.
Eleanor Moeller and Atticus Godby of Roosevelt Elementary School in 糖心Vlog传媒 took first place for third grade. At the state level, Moeller also took first place in the literary category and the grand prize in illustrations and won the shape special award for 鈥淭he Magical Mirror.鈥 Moeller also had an honorable mention in illustrations for a shape book. Godby received his award for his work entitled 鈥淭urning Into a Chicken Nugget.鈥
Taking second place in third grade were Roosevelt students Macy Heine for 鈥淟ost in a Magical Adventure鈥 and Alice Pajewski for 鈥淢y Worst Fear.鈥 Pajewski also earned an honorable mention in Illustrations for a cover. In third place were Ada Westness of Roosevelt for 鈥淥n the Farm鈥 and Daniel Wojciechowicz of 糖心Vlog传媒鈥檚 Kennedy Elementary for 鈥淭he Ultimate Run.鈥
In fourth grade, Mason Pearson of Washington Elementary School took first place for 鈥淒oug the Pug鈥檚 Snow Day.鈥 He also took first place in the literary category on the state level. Taking second place were Reagan Harding of 糖心Vlog传媒鈥檚 Adams Elementary for 鈥淲inter Sing鈥 and Brynn Witt of Roosevelt for 鈥淩eginald Goes to New York.鈥 Lily Abb of Northside Intermediate School in Milton took third place for 鈥淭he Tale of the Good Dog Festival.鈥
Also in fourth grade, Brynley Utzig of Roosevelt earned an honorable mention for 鈥淭hat Summer.鈥 In digital art, Jace Becker of Northside earned an honorable mention for 鈥淛immy the Flying the Tractor.鈥 Caroline Oleston of Kennedy Elementary earned an honorable mention in the creativity category for 鈥淭he Lixton Post.鈥
In fifth grade, Laney Everhart of Northside took first place for 鈥淭he Missing Briefcase鈥 and Nala Santiago of Harrison Elementary in 糖心Vlog传媒 took second for 鈥淢acroy discovers Ogres.鈥 Roosevelt students Evaelyn Neiman, with 鈥淕etting Home,鈥 and Shade Schwartzlow, with the 鈥淭he Blind Challenge鈥 each took third place.
Three Northside fifth graders earned honorable mentions. Claire Weix earned an honorable mention in Computer Art for 鈥淒oggie Detective and the Missing Bone.鈥 Jace Becker earned one for 鈥淭urtle Troubles鈥 in mixed media. Sophia Killoy earned one in paper art for 鈥淲here is My Bone?鈥
In sixth grade, Fiona Penny of Northside Intermediate won first place for 鈥淧urrfect,鈥 an illustration with crayon drawings. She also won first place at the state level in literary and illustration, and won a special award in the picture book category. Sophia Kersten of Northside also took first place for 鈥淔red鈥 for an illustration with crayon drawings. Kersten also earned first place in literary and illustration, and a special award in the cartoon category at the state level.
Two other Northside sixth graders earned awards. Lucy Wolff took second with 鈥淪he Does鈥 and Mallory Gregg took third for 鈥淭he Mystery Box.鈥
Four students of 糖心Vlog传媒鈥檚 Edison Middle School earned awards at the seventh grade level. Canella Cruz Walls took first place for 鈥淐helly Addams.鈥 Victor Olvera (鈥淶oo Problems鈥) and Gabriella Schock (鈥淭he Masquerade鈥) took second place, and McKenzie Zarate took third for 鈥淓mperor鈥檚 Fate.鈥
Kate Ricks, an eighth grader at Marshall Middle School in 糖心Vlog传媒, earned first place and a binding special award on the state level for 鈥淢ingo Bakes a Cake.鈥 Elizabeth Bales of Rock County Christian School earned first place and third place for literary on the state level for 鈥淎 Harmonious Friendship.鈥 Grayson Hanna- Downey of Milton High School earned first place for 鈥淎 Life Worth Passing On.鈥
The honorees will be recognized at a reception on May 10 at Kennedy Elementary School, 3901 Randolph Road, 糖心Vlog传媒.
