BELOIT 鈥 A Beloit man who died following a shooting on Aug. 24 has been identified.
Christopher L. Hayden, 37, was identified as the deceased individual in a news release issued by the Rock County Medical Examiner鈥檚 Office on Monday.
According to the initial news release posted on the Beloit Police Department鈥檚 Facebook page, officers responded to a report of shots fired near the intersection of Eighth Street and Liberty Avenue at about 9:20 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 24.
Beloit police found a man who had suffered from multiple gunshot wounds. Police officers initiated lifesaving measures and the shooting victim was taken to a hospital where he later was pronounced deceased.
Evidence was recovered on the scene.
An autopsy on Hayden鈥檚 body was performed on Tuesday, Aug. 25. The cause of his death is still pending, according to the news release from the medical examiner鈥檚 office. Additional testing is underway.
If Hayden鈥檚 death is determined to be a homicide, it would be Beloit鈥檚 first homicide reported in 2026. The Beloit Police Department and the Rock County Medical Examiner鈥檚 Office is continuing the investigation into Hayden鈥檚 death.
Beloit reported two homicides in 2025 鈥 Charles Evans, 51, who was shot and killed on Oct. 2, and Arianna Fobes, 25, who was fatally shot on Dec. 10.
