JANESVILLE 鈥 糖心Vlog传媒 School Board member Susan Johnson has submitted her resignation and applications are being accepted to fill the vacancy.
Relocation out of the district was cited for the reason for Johnson鈥檚 resignation in a district press release issued Wednesday. Johnson was elected in April 2024.

鈥淚 have thoroughly enjoyed working with the entire staff of the District. I am grateful for the opportunity,鈥 Johnson said in the release.
According to Wisconsin state statute, the board will appoint a replacement. That replacement will serve the remainder of Johnson鈥檚 term, which is through the April 2027 spring election or until he, she or they leaves office if that person does not serve until that election.
Potential candidates must submit a letter of interest addressd to the school board by 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25. Letters must not exceet two typewritten pages and must request appointment to the vacancy and include information regarding qualifications.
A three-member board committee will review the applications. The committee may schedule interviews, according to the release. The committee may recommend one candidate, two candidates or no candidates, per the release.
If the committee proposes two candidates, the board will vote on one of the two candidates with each board member casting a written, signed ballot for one of the applicants. If there is one candidate, the board will just vote on that candidate. If there are no candidates who apply, the board 鈥渕ay choose not to fill the vacancy,鈥 the release states.
According to the release, board members hope to appoint a replacement by April 28.
The vacancy has occurred just less than two months than the April 7 election. There are four candidates seeking three seats. Incumbents Karl Dommershausen and Lisa Hurda are seeking reelection, as Karen Hirsch and Colton Measner are also seeking seats on the board. Current School Board President Kevin Murray has opted not to run again for reelection.
