JANESVILLE 鈥 An architectural firm is refining plans for new greenhouses at Craig and Parker high schools, 糖心Vlog传媒 School Board Finance, Buildings and Grounds Committee Chair Greg Ardrey told school board members Tuesday.
Ardery said the greenhouse construction is now expected to be done around Sept. 1, 2024. The work is being delayed so when the estimates are done the building will be up to code. He said there have been updates to regulations that have forced the architectural firm, JP Cullen, to call an 鈥渁udible.鈥 The project is expected to cost about $2 million.
Ardery鈥檚 report at Tuesday鈥檚 school board meeting additionally focused on other facilities updates, including improvements at Franklin Middle School. He lauded JP Cullen鈥檚 efforts over the summer to replace windows.
鈥淲hen you walk through and see the level of detail and see these windows that were literally ground to roof and you are replacing them and making sure they鈥檙e ready in time,鈥 Ardery said.
According to a memo from Facilities Services Director Dave Leeder, Chief Financial Officer Dan McCrea and Tami Carlson, the district鈥檚 fiscal analyst, the work at Franklin includes duct work, ceiling tile installation, electrical service installation and glazing at the north end of the building. At the end of the school year, HVAC ventilators and a new roof will be installed. The project is expected to cost about $13 million, which will partially be from federal. Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds.
An ongoing $1 million window project at Edison Middle School is also expected to be finished by Sept. 1, 2024.
Also on Tuesday night, the school board unanimously approved wage increases for all employees in the district by 5.9% with the exception of Superintendent Mark Holzman. A memo from Assistant Superintendent Scott Garneron on Aug. 17 said administrators asked for consideration of the wage increases, 鈥渋ncluding support staff, administrators and the superintendent.鈥
The board backpedaled on a raise for Holzman after board member Kevin Murray said the board 鈥渟hould stop and think because the superintendent contract is a standalone contract.鈥
