BELOIT -- One person is dead after a Rock County Public Works Department snowplow and a semi tractor trailer were involved in what the DPW is calling a "significant crash" on I-39/90 on Friday.
At approximately 11:47 a.m. near mile marker 182 on the eastbound side of the freeway, the plow was clearing snow on the inside median as a part of winter maintenance following a system a flurries that came through Rock County, according to a DPW release. The release said that the semi struck the plow on its rear passenger side.
The driver of the plow was not injured but is being evaluated at a local hospital, according to the news release.
Traffic from I-39/90 is being rerouted using Highways 11, G and BT. According to the release, The Wisconsin State Patrol is unsure about how long the closure will be but "will likely extend into the evening commute." The State Patrol is investigating the incident.
The name of the driver of the semi was not released.
