Tyson Fury indicates his long-awaited fight with Anthony Joshua is off and challenges Oleksandr Usyk to a trilogy bout in November instead. Negotiations for an all-British fight between former heavyweight champions Fury and Joshua have dragged on without a firm date or venue, and key financial questions left open. Fury has laid the blame with Joshua in an Instagram video packed with insults and expletives and tells Usyk he is “looking for a new opponent.” Usyk became the first undisputed world heavyweight champion in 24 years when he beat Fury in May 2024. The British fighter was defeated again in their rematch seven months later.

Katie Taylor won an Olympic gold medal and headlined at Madison Square Garden. The Irish boxer’s farewell fight might surpass those feats. Taylor will face undefeated Flora Pili before an estimated 80,000 fans at Croke Park in Dublin on Saturday night. The 40-year-old Taylor plans to retire after the bout. It was always her dream to fight at Ireland’s sporting cathedral. Taylor holds the WBO, WBA and IBF super lightweight belts and will try to win the vacant WBC title when she squares off with Pili. Muhammad Ali fought at Croke Park in 1972.

Filip Hrgovic stopped Moses Itauma in the ninth round to hand the 21-year-old British boxer his first loss and take the vacant IBF heavyweight world title on Saturday. Itauma’s corner threw in the towel as he was being pummelled against the ropes, making the 34-year-old Hrgovic the first Croatian heavyweight champion. Itauma had never been past the sixth round in his first 14 professional bouts and tired visibly after taking command of the early rounds. The rivals traded blows in the eighth and ninth before the granite chin of Hrgovic won out.
