With training camp approaching, the Pistons have not re-signed restricted free agent Jalen Duren. Detroit drafted Thompson out of the Overtime Elite developmental program in 2023 with the No. 5 pick and he has developed into one of the NBA's best defensive players.

Pelle Larsson and the Miami Heat have agreed on a four-year contract extension that could be worth up to $60 million. A person familiar with the talks shared the details with The Associated Press. Larsson's starting salary for 2027-28 will be $13.5 million, with a mutual option for the 2030-31 season. Larsson was originally picked by Houston in 2024 before being traded to Miami. He quickly became a key player for the Heat, playing in 55 games as a rookie and 70 games last season. The Heat have praised his development, including his performances for Sweden this summer in World Cup qualifiers.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have promoted Brandon Weems to general manager. It was one of five front office appointments announced by president of basketball operations Koby Altman on Friday. Weems has been with the Cavaliers for 11 seasons, including the last four as assistant general manager. He began as a scout in 2015 and was promoted to director of scouting in 2017 before becoming senior director of player personnel in 2021. The Cavaliers also announced Jon Nichols has been promoted to associate general manager and Brendon Yu and Jos茅 Calder贸n to assistant general managers. Dashiell Flynn was hired as chief technology officer of basketball operations.
