A major outage has hit the Dutch railway system and the company maintaining the rail infrastructure is treating it as possible sabotage. Prorail said that materials were deliberately placed on the tracks and that was what caused track-circuit failures early Tuesday. The company didn't elaborate on what was found. There is no immediate indication of who might be behind the apparent sabotage. National railway company NS said that train services around the central cities of Zwolle, Deventer and Amersfoort were severely affected during the morning rush hour. It's unclear how long it will take for train services to return to normal.

The Netherlands is known for its extensive cycling infrastructure, with over 153,000 kilometers of bike-friendly paths. Chris Thompson, an 82-year-old cyclist from England, found the ride easy and well-organized. The only challenges are finding your bike among thousands at the end of the day and dealing with soreness for newcomers.

Russia and North Korea have opened their first road bridge for car traffic, enhancing their growing ties. The bridge, which is one kilometer long with two lanes, opened on Monday. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said the expansion of transport infrastructure will boost cooperation between the two counties. Relations between Russia and North Korea have been flourishing, with North Korea supplying ammunition and troops to support Russia's war against Ukraine. North Korea began receiving Russian tourists in February 2024. One railway bridge and air service already connect North Korea and Russia, and in 2024 the two countries agreed to construct a bridge for automobiles.

Masked men have blocked the entrance to Britain’s busiest ferry port, Dover. Police say they are “engaging with the protesters.” The Port of Dover reports all traffic in and out is stopped due to the incident on Saturday. Social media footage shows several dozen men dressed in black standing across a major road near the port. P&O Ferries says its boats are running on schedule, and passengers who miss their ferry will be offered the next available crossing. Dover has been the site of previous anti-immigrant protests focused on migrants crossing the Channel from France in small boats.

A major bridge over the Chicago River got stuck for more than four hours Wednesday after it lifted up to allow a boat to pass, snarling traffic in Chicago's downtown. The bridge froze shortly after a scheduled lift at around 10 a.m. because of a wave of extreme heat that swept the city for two days in a row. City crews and the Chicago Fire Department worked to cool the bridge. It finally lowered and traffic resumed just before 2:30 p.m.
