MCFARLAND, Wis. 鈥 The Beloit Turner Trojans came up short in a comeback attempt Friday night, falling 35-27 to McFarland in their non-conference season opener.
The Trojans rushed for 271 yards, and had four different ballcarriers reach the end zone in the defeat.
Quarterback Case Ehret rushed 20 times for 95 yards, Peyton Tucker rushed for 83 yards (including a 63-yard touchdown run) in just five carries, while Keon Smith rushed for an 11-yard score among his 33 yards. Bray Hurd was the fourth touchdown scorer, going three yards with 3:57 left in the game to cut the lead to 35-27.
The Trojans forced a McFarland stop and had one last chance to tie it up, but their efforts were denied with a final pass at the Spartans 30-yard line. McFarland got off to a terrific start, leading 13-0 at the end of the first quarter.
After Tucker鈥檚 touchdown cut the lead to 13-7, John Gibson returned the ensuing kickoff 89 yards for a score to make it 21-7. Ehret kept the Trojans in the game with a 50-yard score to cut the lead to 21-14.
McFarland closed the first-half scoring with a touchdown with just 1:27 left in the half.
鈥 BYRON 55, NORTH BOONE 7: The Byron Tigers opened up their defense of the IHSA Class 3A state title with an easy win over the Vikings Friday night.
North Boone running back JJ Edmundson went 45 yards for an early score as the Tigers scored 21 points in each of the first two quarters to establish a dominant start.
Edmundson later added another rushing score, and Landon Bonvallet also scored twice as the Tigers rolled to a win.
The Vikings will play their home opener Friday against Winnebago.
鈥 WEST CARROLL 46, SOUTH BELOIT 13: The SoBos came up short in their contest against West Carroll in the season opener for both teams Friday night.
The game began in poor fashion for the SoBos. West Carroll began their drive at midfield after the South Beloit squib kick went out of bounds. Two plays and just 43 seconds later, West Carroll found the endzone with a long touchdown run.
On the final play of the first quarter, the Thunder increased their lead to 12-0 on a short touchdown run.
South Beloit fought back to within 12-6 on a 49-yard touchdown pass from James Herrington to Balam Munoz in the second quarter, but West Carroll scored the next 34 points to take the game over.
Herrington led the SoBos attack with 66 yards passing and 120 yards rushing and a touchdown on 22 carries. Zane Hagstrom led the SoBos passing acttack with 62 yards, including a touchdown, on two receptions.
鈥 WILMOT UNION 48, CLINTON 0: The Clinton Cougars had a tough start to their 2026 season in a shutout loss at Wilmot Union Friday.
The Panthers had the game wrapped up by halftime. After leading 7-0 after the first quarter, Union poured in on the second quarter with four touchdowns.
The second half, played with a running clock, saw the Panthers outscore the Cougars 13-0. The Panthers controlled the game while throwing only four passes.
Maxwell Mettry led the Panthers with 91 yards and a pair of scores.
The Cougars will play at Woodstock (IL) on Friday night.
鈥 EDGERTON 42, BRODHEAD-JUDA 12: The Crimson Tide rolled past the Cardinals in the opener Friday night.
Edgerton senior quarterback Brayden Doerr threw for six touchdowns, Eli Kittleson caught three passes for 139 yards and two scores, and Holden Howard was a force on both sides of the ball in the Crimson Tide鈥檚 win.
The game was the first for new co-coaches Justin Fowlkes and Kyle Johnson. They replaced Russ Lietz who retired after the last school year.
The 6-foot-1, 155-pound Doerr spread the ball around while completing 10 of 14 passes for 323 yards. He threw for four touchdowns in the first half when the Crimson Tide opened a 28-6 lead.
He added two more scoring throws in the third quarter as Edgerton went ahead 42-6 to implement a running clock.
Kittleson sparked the 392-yard offensive onslaught with his 139 yards in receptions and several big runs on jet sweeps. The University of St. Thomas (Minnesota) football recruit had a third touchdown wiped out by a penalty on a jet sweep.
Senior Taydem Schaefer caught two touchdown passes that covered 77 yards.
Grayson Arn was the offensive standout for the Cardinals. The 5-10, 170-pound senior had 162 yards rushing on 15 carries in the first half, but he was one of several Cardinals who were affected by leg cramps in the second half.
Brodhead/Juda will play at Rock Valley Conference favorite Evansville Friday night.
鈥 BIG FOOT 19, PARKVIEW 12: The Chiefs got the Kyle Collins era off to a terrific start with a victory Friday night in Walworth.
Big Foot鈥檚 Dawson Walter was the offensive star, rushing for 222 yards on 32 carries along with three touchdowns. Ta-Kai Bubbert added 16 rushes for 84 yards as the Chiefs rushed for 332 yards as a team.
Parkview was led by a solid passing attack that produced 273 yards from junior quarterback Elijah Gunn.
Gunn鈥檚 favorite target was Louis Nath, who caught 208 of the yards and a score. Gunn was terrific on the ground as well, rushing for 103 yards on 14 carries and the other Viking touchdown.
The Chiefs will play at Harvard (IL) on Friday, while Parkview will travel to Pacelli Friday.
