On Tuesday, Ahrens, who remains in custody, waived her right to a preliminary hearing and pleaded not guilty. Rock County Commissioner Jack Hoag bound her over for trial with a trial date to be set later.
Hunter Drefahl, who also remains in custody, is facing similar charges for his role in the incident. He also pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial. His next court date is set for July 23.
The evidence for the charges was uncovered during the investigation of a shooting death on April 6 in Evansville. Evansville Police Department officers were called to the 300 block of South Madison Avenue following the report of a subject who had been shot. There they found Henthorn, who was pronounced dead at the hospital.
As part of the investigation, police allegedly found multiple videos on Drefahl’s phone of Drefahl and Ahrens having sexual contact with the teenager. According to a criminal complaint, Henthorn got in an argument with Drefahl and Ahrens about selling the videos the day of the incident.
The court set a cash bond of $500,000 for Ahrens and $750,000 for Drefahl, who both remain in custody.
