A registered sex offender charged last month with sexually assaulting a child faces a new charge of felony bail jumping after he was found living with and possibly baby-sitting children.
Jorge Mendoza Arellano, 43, of 1709 Grant St., 糖心Vlog传媒, was charged April 7 with third-degree sexual assault, exposing genitals and exposing a child to harmful materials. He stood mute to charges, and a not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf.
Arellano was already a registered sex offender after a Jefferson County conviction in 1996 for second-degree sexual assault of a child.
Cash bond of $9,000 was set in the April case. Arellano posted that amount and was released, court documents indicate.
Conditions of the bond included no intentional contact with any juvenile and not to possess any device that can access the internet.
On May 7, 糖心Vlog传媒 police heard from a state sex-offender registry coordinator who had received tips that Arellano was living in a house with several children and was baby-sitting children there ranging from infant to 6 years old on a daily basis, according to the criminal complaint.
If true, Arellano was violating registry rules by not living at his reported address, according to the complaint.
Police went to the home, where they found Arellano. He said he was living there with his mother and sister, who has two minor children, according to the complaint.
Officers also reported finding Arellano in possession of a smartphone.
In court Tuesday, Court Commissioner Larry Barton ordered a $10,000 cash bond and that Arellano not have intentional contact with children or access to the internet and no drinking.
