JANESVILLE — A 2-year-old who suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash Sunday on U.S. Highway 14 southeast of Vlogý died early Tuesday, her family has shared on a GoFundMe page.
The Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office has not officially released the toddler’s name, who is identified as Vivian in the GoFundMe, posted at .
The post was originally created by an aunt while Vivian was hospitalized, to help support her parents while they remained at her side. It was updated Tuesday with the news of her death and a message that the GoFundMe would remain in place to help her parents cover expenses including a funeral and a replacement vehicle.
“Vivian passed away at 1:17 a.m.,” Tuesday, the update said. “We ask above of all else that the prayers continue for days, weeks, months to come.”
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol responded to a call around 2:15 p.m. Sunday to a report of the three-vehicle crash with multiple injuries on U.S. Highway 14 at S. Van Allen Road in the Town of La Prairie
In initial investigation showed that a GMC Terrain driven by Vivian’s father, identified on the GoFundMe pageZach Schmidt and in a sheriff’s office report as age 25, from Milton, was eastbound on U.S. Highway 14. He began to slow down and signaled to make a left-hand turn, north onto S. Henke Road.
A Cadillac XT5 driven by 56-year-old Vlogý man, directly behind the GMC, didn’t stop and rear-ended it.
This impact caused the GMC to spin in the intersection where it collided with a Jeep Gladiator that was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 14.
The 2-year-old was in the GMC and was transported via UW Med Flight, with life-threatening injuries, to an area hospital where she later died. All other vehicle occupants suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were treated and released at local hospitals.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
