JANESVILLE 鈥 A 67-year-old 糖心Vlog传媒 man who refused to exit a vehicle at a traffic stop and told police officers he had a gun was ultimately arrested at the scene Tuesday night.
According to a release from the 糖心Vlog传媒 Police Department, officers stopped a vehicle with three occupants, including Gary Sandvick, around 5:20 p.m. on S. Pearl Street, just north of Rockport Road. The stop was initiated to arrest Sandvick for failure to report to jail.
After the two other people exited the vehicle, Sandvick 鈥渟aid he had a gun and officers were going to have to shoot him. Several other officers responded and the road was shut down,鈥 the release said.
鈥淥fficers were able to speak with Gary by phone, but he still refused to exit and maintained he had a gun and officers were going to have to shoot him. Officers deployed several chemical munitions into the vehicle which caused Gary to exit the vehicle,鈥 the release said. 鈥淎fter Gary exited, he continued to refuse commands so further less lethal munitions were deployed and K9 Viktos was utilized to assist in taking Gary into custody.鈥
Sandvick was being held in the Rock County Jail for charges from this incident and pending drug charges from previous incidents.
According to online court records, he was charged in November with third-offense OWI, carrying a concealed knife, and possession of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors; and four counts of felony bail jumping.
He was also charged in November with felony manufacturing or delivering narcotics, felony manufacturing or delivering cocaine, and misdemeanor bail jumping.
And he was charged in August with one felony count of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and receiving stolen property valued at $5,000 to $10,000 or a firearm.
His next court appearance on all of these charges is set for April 17.
