MILTON — The Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim of a house fire last Friday in Milton.
Angela Stewart, 67, was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation is continuing to determine her cause of death.
According to a release, Lakeside Fire-Rescue responded to the home on Ansley Avenue in Milton around 4:15 a.m. Friday, after a passerby call 911, reporting flames visible through the front window.
The passerby told 911 that she had noticed a car in the driveway. Not seeing anyone outside, and thinking someone might be inside, she knocked on the front and rear doors.
The release said there was evidence that the fire “may have smoldered for an extended length of time†before being discovered. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation by a team that includes Lakeside Fire-Rescue, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, Rock County Medical Examiner, and the Wisconsin State Fire Marshall’s Office.
The fire damage was contained primarily to the living room area, with extensive smoke damage throughout the first floor.
And initial investigation appeared to indicate that there were no working smoke detectors in the residence, and that the home was not equipped with automatic residential fire sprinklers.
