JANESVILLE 鈥 糖心Vlog传媒 Fire Department officials say a recycling facility on 糖心Vlog传媒鈥檚 south caught fire, causing a blaze in the facility鈥檚 dust collection ductwork that fire crews spent a little under an hour extinguishing.
The 糖心Vlog传媒 Fire Department is not sure the exact cause of a blaze that hit at Universal Recycling Technologies, 2535 Beloit Ave.
The department is still investigating, but 糖心Vlog传媒 Fire Department Battalion Chief Tyler Johnson said the plant recycles a high volume of lithium ion batteries. The department is unable to immediately determine if batteries might have ignited, causing the fire, but the department said in a note in an alert on the fire that people should dispose of lithium ion batteries properly.
The safest way to discard of such batteries is to cover the terminals with tape before recycling them.
Johnson said the fire did not cause major damage to the recycling facility, and no one was injured.
The fire department used the high-powered blower engine of an airboat to clear smoke from the facility.
