JANESVILLE 鈥 A little-known piece of trivia: The city of 糖心Vlog传媒 has only one remaining residential gravel street 鈥 A one-block section of Anthony Avenue.
But soon, that stretch of gravel street soon will be gone, with pavement and curb and gutter in its place.
The change is coming after a developer bought a pair of lots on the one-block stretch of Anthony Avenue that runs between South Jackson and Adel streets on the south side.
The street has been gravel since 1976, but the city of 糖心Vlog传媒 requires any street with new development to have curb and gutter and paved streets.
Right now, the street serves six lots, including a commercial property to the north and five lots to the south 鈥 one of which has a set of apartments, and another of which has a single-family home.
The city says it has no record to explain exactly why the one-block stretch was never urbanized even though two residential properties have driveways that access Anthony Avenue, and the street runs perpendicular to a South Jackson, a major city thoroughfare.
Residents along the stretch will be charged for the improvements, which were last bid out in 2019 at about $97,000. The city had priced the work at that time but had not scheduled the work.
The city does not have plans submitted for private development projects on the stretch, but the city aims to design the improvement project and then bill it to the four registered property owners on the block as a special assessment.
That is how the city in the past has funded other smaller urbanization projects on about a dozen similar stretches.
A city inventory of required work says the project would include storm sewer, curb and gutter, asphalt pavement and street lights.
Both ends of Anthony Avenue already have stop signs posted.
