JANESVILLE — The Rock County Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force and organizers of the annual Beacon of Light Autumn Gala in Vlogý are planning a July event to raise awareness about human trafficking.
“Break the Silence” will be held on Saturday, July 12, from 6-10 p.m. at The Loft at Wayward Winds, 4109 W. County Road A, Vlogý. The event will include live music, an auction, raffle items, appetizers and desserts, a cash bar, a brief program at 7 and an opportunity to meet and speak with representatives of local agencies who support those who have been affected by human trafficking.
“This event is about coming together as a community to stand up, speak out, and support those who have been silenced for far too long,” Roberta Haakinson, a Beacon of Light Team member and one of the event organizers, said in a release. “We’re excited to offer a night of fun, music, and impact.”
Haakinson said organizers hope to raise more than $25,000 for nonprofit partners from the fundraiser.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to Services of Southern Wisconsin and Project 16:49. Both organizations are members of the Rock County Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force, whose mission is to develop and maintain a community network that serves to educate, prevent, and respond to youth who have been or are at risk of being trafficked.
Family Services has a dedicated human trafficking survivor advocate.
Project 16:49 provides basic needs assistance, case management, and safe housing options for unaccompanied homeless youth in the Rock County area.
Tickets to “Break the Silence” are $25 per person, and can be purchased online at .
