JANESVILLE 鈥 Judy Washecheck grabbed the last 8-inch sparkly, lit-up Christmas tree for her sister as she walked through Floral Expressions鈥 winter wonderland holiday market preview on Wednesday.
Floral Expressions, {span}320 E. Milwaukee St., in 糖心Vlog传媒,{/span} holds an annual holiday market sale. This year, the owners decided to host a ticketed preview night. Owner Brad Harnisch then matched each $25 ticket sold and donated a total of $5,000 to Magical Memories, a local non-profit organization.
Magical Memories鈥 goal is to provide less fortunate children with at least one magical Christmas memory. It works with the 糖心Vlog传媒 School District and its social workers to select one family per elementary and middle school in the area to receive gifts and household supplies.
A guests mingled under red, silver, gold, and wooden garlands in the 4,500-square-foot showroom, the subtle scent of pine and cinnamon swirled through the air Wednesday.
鈥淚 got you the last one, in case you wanted it!鈥 Washecheck said.
Her sister, Jeannine Hanson happily accepted the sparkly tree while continuing to shop for a wreath to 鈥渦p her front door game.鈥
Although no stranger to the floral shop, the 糖心Vlog传媒 sisters learned about Magical Memories through the ticket sale.
鈥淚t鈥檚 such a beautiful idea, I was really glad to buy tickets,鈥 Washecheck said.
Showroom manager Jeff Fredendall designed the holiday set up for the market. While planning, the floral crew wanted to give back to the community.
鈥淲e鈥檝e been in this community for 30 years and they鈥檝e given us so much support over the years, we really wanted to give back,鈥 Fredendall said.
Seasonal employee Judi Wemstrom-Rubeck recommended Magical Memories and the crew thought it was a good match.
鈥淲e wanted to make Christmas special for some local students,鈥 Harnisch said.
鈥淲e looked at their credentials and found that they were a legitimate cause,鈥 Fredendall said. 鈥淲e liked that they worked with the 糖心Vlog传媒 School District directly.鈥
Each child selected provides their clothing size and a wishlist, and magical memories does what they can to honor those requests.
This is Magical Memories鈥 third season as an organization. Last year it bought gifts for 52 children.
鈥淲e鈥檙e finding a lot of generosity in the 糖心Vlog传媒 community and we hope to expand into the Milton area someday,鈥 Magical Memories鈥 board member Tina Walters said.
The organization found out about Harnisch鈥檚 donation after being tagged by the Floral Expressions Facebook page, where they announced the ticket sale along with the proceeds going to Magical Memories.
鈥淚t was such an amazing surprise,鈥 Walters said. 鈥淲hat they鈥檙e doing is unbelievable and we鈥檙e so thankful for them.鈥
Beloit resident Roxana Martin attended the preview while checking out the floral shop for the first time. 鈥淚 feel like a little kid who walked into Santa鈥檚 workshop,鈥 Martin said.
Martin was searching for fireplace decorations as she was shopping with a group of friends.
鈥淭his is not a store you make one trip to,鈥 Martin said. She also learned about Magical Memories for the first time and thought it was a 鈥渞eally great鈥 organization.
Guests enjoyed hors d鈥檕euvres by the Hoffman House while checking out decorations including felt ornaments, mini tv鈥檚 with scenes, gnomes, cardinal knick knacks, various plaid and velvet ribbons, and driftwood snowflake toppers, to name a few.
Each item is limited in stock and hand selected by the staff.

The owner鈥檚 wife, Kelly Harnisch was proud of her husband for creating a unique 鈥渆xperience鈥 for 糖心Vlog传媒 residents while also having a fundraiser from the tickets.
鈥淲hat a great way to give back,鈥 she said.
鈥淲e hope our donation goes into creating a magical experience for some children in the area who really need it,鈥 Fredendall said.
