MILTON — Janis Frank, the comptroller officer at the Bank of Milton, has worked at the bank for five decades. She’s watched generations of Milton locals grow from candy-asking kids into adults with their own accounts.
Growing up in Milton, she noted that it was “home base†for her family. Her father was in the U.S. Army and anytime he deployed overseas, her family would go back to Milton.

After graduating from Milton High School in 1975, Frank was hired as a bank teller. She worked her way through the bank trying various positions throughout the years.
She said she’s spent most of her career working in operations, where she landed in 1981 and where she has worked since.
“I always came back to operations because I like numbers,†Frank said. “I think that’s my strong suit.â€
Frank can trace her Milton roots back to her grandparents who lived in the Milton House before it collapsed in 1948. She said she is “family oriented,†and so when the people at the bank started to feel like family, she couldn’t dream of going anywhere else.
“The people here are family,†Frank said. “I enjoyed my job, and it’s a great group to work for. Milton is a small town and everybody knows everybody, and I really love that.â€
Daniel M. Honold, the president of Bank of Milton, has worked with Frank for more than 39 years.
“Janise is my longest standing employee that I have ever known at the Bank of Milton,†he said.
Honold said that you can’t find employees like Frank anymore, and that she is one-of-a-kind.
“She is just a hardworking, dedicated employee,†Honold said. “She started here right out of high school and never left. As far as I’m concerned Janise Frank is the face of the Bank of Milton.â€
He noted she has “always done whatever it took to get the job done,†and probably worked every facet of the banking industry possible.
“She’s the most talented and well-rounded employee,†Honold said, noting that Frank helped train him when he was hired almost 40 years ago.
Robert Hanlon, a Milton farmer, has been a customer at the Bank of Milton for a little longer than Frank has worked there and said he grew up alongside Frank.
Hanlon joked that he’s known Frank since she was taller than him, noting that she’s “on the short side†now, emphasizing the timeline for their friendship.
On May 30, Frank will retire from her 50 years of service at the bank. Hanlon said she will be missed dearly.
“When you go into the Bank of Milton you’re used to seeing Janise greet you with a smile on her face,†Hanlon said. “And you could always feel confident that if something wasn’t right, she’d straighten it out.â€
Frank is currently training the person who will take over her job after her retirement.
She said she’s excited to travel, “just get in a car and take off,â€noting that things have changed since 1975 and she’s excited for a little time to herself.
“I plan to ride off into the sunset and just go see the sights,†Frank said.
On Friday, May 30, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the Bank of Milton will host an open house in Frank’s honor. The public is welcome to join in refreshments, and Frank will be available to talk to her customers from throughout the years.
“It’s hard to picture Janise retiring,†Honold said. “She’s a gal with a great work ethic. I wish her the best on her retirement, but I also told her if she ever gets bored at home, that there’s always a home here for her. We would welcome her back in any capacity.â€
