JANESVILLE 鈥 A suspect in a recent shooting was arrested Wednesday after the man fired a shot at a 糖心Vlog传媒 police detective and fled from officers through residential neighborhoods on the city鈥檚 west side, police said in a news release.
An off-duty officer recognized Tyrone Gibson, 25, of 糖心Vlog传媒, in the area of Oakhill Avenue and Barham Street on the west side of 糖心Vlog传媒 at about 11:30 a.m. Gibson had a temporary warrant for his arrest on suspicion of attempted first-degree homicide after a shooting last week, according to a police news release.
A uniformed officer stopped Gibson and ordered him to show his hands. Police said Gibson drew a gun from his waistband and fired one shot at a police detective who had just arrived. Gibson then fled on foot through the neighborhood.
Neither the officer nor the detective returned fire in the vicinity of homes that could have been occupied.
Other officers set up a perimeter while others pursued Gibson, who was still armed and running through yards while trying to avoid capture. Gibson also reportedly threatened a resident while he was on the run.
Police eventually hemmed in Gibson in the 1700 block of Peterson Avenue and the suspect was arrested without injury to himself, officers or bystanders.
Gibson was being held at the Rock County Jail on Wednesday night. He faces possible charges of attempted first-degree homicide 鈥 one relating to the incident last week and one for firing a shot at the officer on Wednesday. He also faces a possible charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
