TOWN OF NEWARK — Three Illinois deputies were injured Saturday while disposing of dynamite discovered on property in the 10,000 block of Cleophas Road.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Winnebago County, Illinois Bomb Team after dynamite was found in a trailer on the property on Cleophas Road near Beloit, according to a news release from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department.
The deputies were taken to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries.
City of Beloit and Town of Beloit fire departments ambulances transported the injured Winnebago County deputies. Orfordville Fire Department crews were on stand-by at the scene.
Captain Josh Lund of the Rock County Sheriff’s Office said the property where the dynamite was found had recently been sold at auction and is in the process of ownership transfer. He also said the dynamite had been on the property “for quite some time.â€
He said no criminal charges are anticipated in the case.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office and Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department are continuing to investigate the case.
No information was released about the condition of the Winnebago County deputies who were injured.
