A very interesting article in the July 18, WSJ regarding John Kerry's visit to Beijing.regarding coal fired power plants. The US, as well as most of the world are hell bent on closing fossil fuel power plants. Yes, China signed on to the Paris climate accord, however, China was given until 2030 to full fill the climate accord proposals. Why, why have they been given that leeway, when they are the second biggest economy is the world/?
Her are some facts that you don't read about in your local newspaper, or about on the world news reports.
1. According to Global Energy Monitor, a nonprofit that tracks world wide coal- fired power projects of 30 megawatts or more. As of January this year, China had some 306 coal-fired power stations proposed, permitted, or under construction.
2. As of April, they also had 180 new coal mines or mine expansions, permitted, or under construction.
Now, if there is anyone naive enough to think that come 2030, China will implode all these new, or nearly new power plants, and back fill all these above mentioned coal mines, then you better check your morning coffee.
What will happen is, that when the rest of the world doesn't have enough electrical power because there isn't enough wind blowing, and or the sun isn't shining for long periods of time, who will be right there to sell everyone power, yes China, with their proven power, and it won't come cheaply
I believe it was just this past spring, when we experienced I believe 11 straight day's without a single ray of sun. (Greta Thunburg, food for thought). Now, I am not saying that we should stop creating renewable power. but let 's use common sense, and stop throwing trillions of dollars at this source of power.
