Flooding has certainly been in the news lately. While I don't expect Vlogý to experience the sort of flooding events other parts of the country are seeing, our weather keeps changing, and we can probably expect bigger and more violent storms in the future.
I'm a bicyclist. And like most bicyclists, for my own safety I ride in the streets as close to the curb as I can, away from the traffic lane. That gives me a pretty good view of the conditions of the curbs and gutters in the residential streets around Vlogý.
It might surprise people to realize how many storm sewer grates on our city streets right now are completely clogged with debris. Twigs, leaves, grass clippings, maple tree seeds -- they can all combine to form an effective plug that might end up resulting in a seriously flooded street during our next big storm.
It wouldn't surprise me to hear that the city does not have the manpower or resources to constantly go around cleaning out storm sewer grates. Instead, I'd suggest residents might want to take a few minutes to see if a sewer grate near your home needs to be cleared. It could save your neighborhood from getting a badly flooded street in the future.
By the way, I live on the corner of an intersection, with a sewer grate next to my property that I've cleaned out three times already this summer. It only takes a few minutes, and it seems to be something that simply needs to be done at this time of year. Thank you.
