Salvatore Ferragamo is mapping the origin of much of the leather used in its products. Experts say leather is harder to trace than textiles like cotton. Ferragamo's chief sustainability officer, James Ferragamo, emphasizes the importance of traceability in meeting new EU sustainability regulations. The company has traced over 80% of its leather, mostly from Europe. The fashion house also explores sustainable materials, such as textiles from orange peels and nylon from castor oil.
