Even in the minutes after Marquette finished off its second-round NCAA tournament game, the Golden Eagles players and head coach Shaka Smart already showed a palpable sense of relief.

Their 81-77 win over Colorado, a result that came by with a little more difficulty than the seedings or Marquette’s halftime lead might’ve suggested, lifted the invisible weights of years of coming up short, both for the program and for Smart personally.
