LAKE GENEVA 鈥 No. 4-seeded Lake Geneva Badger got the better of No. 5-seeded 糖心Vlog传媒 Craig, winning 7-2 at Badger High School on Thursday in a WIAA Division 1, sectional 5 regional game.
鈥淒isappointing,鈥 Craig coach Josh Shere said. 鈥淲e didn鈥檛 execute, starting in the first inning.鈥
Cougar Finn Dillon got the start. Dillon pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up five hits, six runs but just one of them were earned. Freshman pitcher Malachi Schoonover pitched the rest of the way, allowing two hits and one run to his two strikeouts and four walks.
Five of Badger鈥檚 runs came in the second inning. In that inning, the Badgers had three hits and were walked twice. A double by Matthew O鈥橤rady scored three runners.
鈥淲e really only had one bad inning, but it came down to our execution.... We have to execute to compete against good teams and just didn鈥檛 do that at a very high level today,鈥 Shere said.
The Cougars scored in the third inning off an RBI single from Lemm and later in the fifth when Lemm scored off an error.
Badger had seven hits and Craig had five.
鈥淭he Badger hitters, they were smashing baseballs,鈥 Shere said.
Ryan Lemm went 2-for-4 and had an RBI.
Craig ends their season 18-9 and went 11-7 in the Big Eight Conference.
鈥淣ot a lot of people thought we鈥檇 be much,鈥 Shere said. 鈥淲e won a lot more games than we lost. It鈥檚 been an incredible season for some of these guys.鈥
