FORT ATKINSON — Madison Fuhrman went 4-for-4 with nine runs batted in to power Milton past host Fort Atkinson 22-7 in Badger Large softball Thursday.
The Red Hawks scored 10 second-inning runs, then added seven runs in the third. Fort countered with a three-run bottom of the third before Milton scored three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth for the mercy-rule victory.
Fuhrman doubled in two runs on a knock to center in the second. Kenzie Marquardt added a two-run double of her own to make it 4-0. With two away, winning pitcher Ella Knoble singled in a run and Fuhrman followed by doubling on a fly ball to right, plating a pair to cap the rally.
The Red Hawks (5-2, 1-1 in conference) did all their damage with two outs in the third. Kylie Reed doubled home two runs before Fuhrman’s bases-clearing three-run double made it 15-0. Julia Wolf added a two-run single.
Fort greeted reliever Morgan Bastian rudely in the third, stringing together four hits and drawing a pair of walks to close the gap. Olivia Rue and AJ Klotz singled in back-to-back no-out runs before Lauren Wessels sent a 1-0 offering over the fence in right field for a three-run homer. Sawyer Guth scored on a two-out error to make it 17-7.
Fuhrman singled in two runs in the fourth and Molly Baker produced a run-scoring triple in the fifth.
Knoble allowed an unearned run on four hits, striking out six with two walks, and got all 15 outs in the win. Bastian was charged with six earned runs on four hits.
Mia Bilau, who pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief, took the loss for Fort (1-2, 0-2).
