糖心Vlog传媒 Parker held Madison La Follette鈥檚 Alayna West to just 15 points, but missed free throws and layups plagued the Vikings in their 59-41 Big Eight Conference girls basketball loss at home Tuesday.
The Vikings鈥 tough defense led by Harper Brandenburg was on display once again as they held West to just four points in the first half. She eventually found more opportunities in the second half on turnovers while the Lancers (3-1 overall, 3-1 Big Eight) found different ways to attack.
鈥淗arper just shut her down,鈥 Parker coach Ryan Tyrrell said. 鈥淪he did a great job. It was fantastic. So that was a huge win.鈥
While the Vikings鈥 defense hounded La Follette, their offense struggled to pick up points. After taking lessons from each outing, Parker鈥檚 offense found a new challenge when being confronted by three different defensive setups from the Lancers throughout the game.
Parker (0-4, 0-4) found chances for easy baskets but missed several layups. The Vikings also made just 13 of 30 attempts from the free-throw line.
鈥淭he execution was better today, and we simplified the offense,鈥 Tyrrell said. 鈥淚 did see more discipline today. But there are still so many little things that need to be fixed for us to be efficient and effective. It鈥檚 a work in progress.鈥
Nichari Tucker led the Vikings in scoring with 16 points. Brandenburg scored 10.
Freshman Delaney King scored five points for the Vikings while facing a tough test in West.
鈥淭hey took Alayna West off Harper and put her on Delaney King,鈥 Tyrrell said. 鈥淪he has struggled, but she played a lot better today. She said she felt like the game slowed down a little bit for her today and she was seeing the floor a lot better.鈥
Parker will travel to Verona for a game at 7:15 p.m. Friday.
