EDGERTON — The Crimson Tide claimed their second-consecutive regional championship with a 50-34 win over Turner in WIAA Division 3 girls basketball Saturday night.
Edgerton raced to an 8-0 advantage and maintained a steady lead en route to the regional championship in front of its home fans.
“Our goal from day one has been to put numbers on our championship banner. For this group to put two of them on there in back-to-back years — and never before in history — is spectacular,†said Edgerton coach Chris Jenny.
Saturday night saw six Edgerton players lead its scoring efforts. Marti Rebman poured in 13 to lead all scorers. Claudia Jenny and Reese Zellmer netted 10 points apiece.
“I thought everybody had their moments. You know that’s what I think makes us a really good team is everybody finds a way to contribute,†said Jenny.
Guards Claudia, Rebman and Zellmer got downhill and into the lane. Brenna Callmer helped defend Turner’s taller players and Gracee Langer helped rebound and finish putback opportunities.
“But even some of our role kids that come off the bench, I just thought they found opportunities when they got in the game to go and make plays,†said Jenny.
The No. 7 Crimson Tide now advance to sectionals against No. 3 Prairie du Chien (24-2 overall, 9-1 SWC).
“We’ve been watching them all year. We’ve had our eyes on them because we knew that they’re a really good team in our sectional,†said coach Jenny.
The Blackhawks have four seniors that regularly start, and four of their five starters stand 5-foot-10 or taller.
“They play extremely well together. I would actually say that they are very similar to us. They play a similar style to us. So it’s really going to come down to who executes the best at the moment,†said Jenny.
The contest is set for Thursday, March 6 at 7 p.m. at the Richland Center.
