DAVENPORT, Iowa — The Beloit Sky Carp’s offense sat idly by for several innings until the floodgates burst open in the sixth.
The Sky Carp used a five-run sixth inning and outhit the Quad Cities River Bandits 11-3 to win 5-0 on Wednesday night and bump their series lead up to 2-0.
Beloit and the River Bandits were locked into a scoreless pitching duel for the first five innings. Sky Carp starter Josh White only allowed two hits and two walks in that span, finishing the day with three strikeouts to boot.
Beloit, on the other hand, put runners on base in the first five innings. In the fifth, Javier Sanoja singled with one out, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball but was stranded there.
The Sky Carp wouldn’t let the next opportunity slip away. Ynmanol Marinez’s single scored Zach Zubia, who had walked, with one out in the sixth. Jorge Caballero added a one-run double before Joshua Zamora hit a two-run single on a fly ball to the shortstop. Joe Mack’s RBI single pushed Beloit’s lead to 5-0.
The bullpen locked it down from there. Kyle Crigger and Caleb Wurster, who had four strikeouts, each threw two scoreless innings to seal the win.
