Without a chance of winning the national title, the 糖心Vlog传媒 13U Babe Ruth baseball team showed it wasn鈥檛 going stop playing Thursday.
糖心Vlog传媒 got a six-hit complete game from Joe Trumpy, and Trent Jacobson went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI to lead the Generals past North Providence (Rhode Island) in the first-round of bracket play in the 13U Babe Ruth World Series at Glen Allen, Virginia.
糖心Vlog传媒, which went 1-3 in pool play despite outscoring its four opponents 18-12, plays at noon Friday. If the Generals win that game, they play for fifth place Saturday at 9 a.m.
鈥淭rumpy pitched a gem,鈥 said 糖心Vlog传媒 head coach Tom Davey. 鈥淗e pitched to contact. He only walked one.鈥
糖心Vlog传媒 fell behind 1-0 in the first but scored twice in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.
Colton Smalley went 2-for-4 with two RBI. In one of the more bizarre batting lines, Hank Nichols went 0-for-0 with three RBI, including a successful suicide squeeze with two strikes and two sacrifice flies. Jaxson Beaumont went 1-for-1 and scored twice.
鈥淲e had some timely hitting today,鈥 Davey said. 鈥淲e鈥檝e been hamstringing ourselves with the bases loaded. It鈥檚 been our worst position to be in.鈥
Davey was proud of the way the team responded after suffering three close losses in pool play that eliminated the Generals from playing for the World Series title.
鈥淲e showed up,鈥 Davey said. 鈥淚鈥檓 glad we had another opportunity to play because we have been snakebit down here. It was to go out there and see some good things happen for our ballclub.鈥
