ELKHORN — After beating Vlogý Craig on Tuesday, Milton head coach Kurt Mussey said his offense and his defense were the two keys against No. 3 seed Elkhorn.
The No. 6 Red Hawks had 14 hits and no errors and won 7-2 against the Elks Thursday afternoon in a WIAA Division 1 regional final softball game at Elkhorn High School.
“It was really awesome, super proud of the girls, they played really good softball,” Mussey said.
Madison Fuhrman went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Ella Knoble went 3-for-4 in the 9 spot. Molly Baker and Trinity Harris each went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Elkhorn and Milton were tied at one heading into the sixth inning. A 5-run sixth inning flipped the game in Milton’s favor.
A double by Wolf started the inning and later Harris drove Wolf in with a double of her own. Fuhrman provided an RBI double and a costly Elkhorn Erros following a bunt by Morgan Bastian allowed three Red Hawks to score.
Bastian provided Milton with seven innings in the circle, allowing six hits and two earned runs, while issuing five strikeout and one walk.
“She did a phenomenal job,” Mussey said.
Now, Milton takes on No. 10 seed Waterford, who will be coming off an upset where it beat No. 2 Oconomowoc 5-1.
Though, Mussey said he expected Waterford to get the win after Wolverine pitcher Jaydin Kisler, a Ball State University commit returned from an injury that kept her out for most of the year.
Kisler allowed five hits and one earned run and had 10 strikeout to two walks in a complete performance to get past Oconomowoc.
“We’re just going to have to hit elite pitching,” Mussey said.
That game takes place Tueday at Milton’s Schilberg Park.
