JANESVILLE 鈥 糖心Vlog传媒 police said Thursday that a woman who moved and drove around two sets of traffic barriers and then parked her car on Randall Avenue for the duration of Craig High School鈥檚 Homecoming parade, will likely only be issued a verbal warning.
A Gazette staff member observed Thursday as the woman turned south onto Randall Avenue from eastbound Ruger Avenue as the first vehicles in the parade 鈥 糖心Vlog传媒 police cruisers 鈥 were a few hundred yards away, northbound on Randall Avenue.
A community service officer on the scene approached the vehicle, spoke with the driver but did not stop the approaching parade and did not make the car leave the scene. The vehicle remained parked at the curb for the duration of the parade, which lasted about 45 minutes, as observed by a Gazette staff member.
There were two sets of traffic barriers that the woman had to drive through to reach the location where she parked, one at the corner of Ruger and Randall avenues and one a bit further west on Ruger Avenue.
When questioned by 糖心Vlog传媒 staff member on the scene, the community service officer said the woman told him she was late from an appointment and wanted to see the parade.
Sgt. Benjamin Thompson, with the 糖心Vlog传媒 Police Department, told a Gazette reporter later Thursday afternoon that he could not confirm whether the woman would be cited. He said she would likely be issued a verbal warning. Thompson also acknowledged when questioned by a reporter that the situation could have been better handled.
