JANESVILLE 鈥 糖心Vlog传媒 School Superintendent Mark Holzman is expected to discuss the district鈥檚 state report card scores at Tuesday鈥檚 school board meeting.
That鈥檚 per an email to 糖心Vlog传媒 from district Public Information Officer Patrick Gasper.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the district office, 527 S. Franklin St.
The report cards are scored on four areas: student achievement, student growth, target group outcomes and on-track to graduation.
On its state report card scores for 2023-24, released in November, the School District of 糖心Vlog传媒 earned 55.7 points out of 100, or 鈥渕eets few expectations,鈥 the second year in a row the district fell into that category. In 2023-23, it received 57.3 points. In 2021-22, it received a score of 60.2, or 鈥渕eets few expectations.鈥
Statewide, only 11 school districts scored worse for 2023-24 than 糖心Vlog传媒, including Beloit, Berlin, Genoa City, Twin Lakes, Wilmot, Union Grove, Tri-County Area, Lakeland, Owen-Withee, Merrill and Manitowoc, which was the district in which Holzman served as superintendent prior to coming to 糖心Vlog传媒.
An attachment to Tuesday night鈥檚 agenda online has three introductory slides, followed by a slide entitled 鈥淎chievements鈥 with four bullet points: 鈥淕rowth Grades 3-5 math exceeding the state average,鈥 鈥淎bove the state average in 4th grade ELA (English language arts),鈥 鈥淚ncreased growth in 8th grade ELA and Math鈥 and 鈥淚ncrease in post -secondary readiness programming opportunities for students.鈥
The next two slides show the district鈥檚 overall report card score and a breakdown, including the 54.5 score in achievement, 50.8 in growth, 42.1 in target group outcomes and 77.8 in on-track to graduation.
Then there are slides showing results of the Wisconsin Forward Exam throughout the district, as well as a slide entitled 鈥淪trategic Action Steps,鈥 which include 鈥淐urriculum Implementation,鈥 鈥淭argeted Support for Key Transitions,鈥 鈥淪upport for Target Groups鈥 and 鈥淩esource Allocation to Secondary Levels.鈥
According to the slideshow, 鈥淐urriculum Implementation鈥 includes a 鈥渃ontinued emphasis鈥 on the Bridges math curriculum and Wonders Reading curriculum, which are 鈥渁ligned with the science of reading.鈥
There will be implementation and monitoring of Act 20 statewide assessment and reading plans for students below the 25th percentile, the slideshow states. Act 20 is a new state reading law that requires all schools to provide science-based early literacy instruction in both the classroom and in intervention settings.
Targeted support will be focused at points such as between elementary and middle schools, according to the slideshow.
鈥淲e will intensify our focus on students in the bottom quartile to help improve their performance across key metrics鈥 in regard to support for target groups, the slideshow states.
The slideshow states that resources have already shifted toward 鈥渟econdary-level achievement,鈥 but it is not specific on what those resources are.
