JANESVILLE 鈥 If you鈥檝e got an old 鈥渢ube-style鈥 television, a defunct cellphone or even a few strings of Christmas lights that no longer work, there鈥檚 a place this weekend where you can get rid of it all.
Universal Recycling Technologies in 糖心Vlog传媒 is hosting its its sixth free electronics recycling event for residents from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday.
URT is opening its location at 2535 Beloit Ave. to the public, offering residents the same secure electronics recycling services it offers corporations.
The event, timed for Earth Day, is a chance for people to responsibly and safely clear their basements and garages of old laptops, TVs, computers, unused electric cords and more.
URT Marketing and Communications Director Danae Gullicksen said URT is among the few electronics recyclers with the equipment to strip apart and shred computers while sorting the various plastics and metals inside for specific recycling reuses.
{div}She said URT has the ability onsite to strip metal wires out of Christmas tree lights. {/div}

{div}It鈥檚 not the first such recycling even URT has held in 糖心Vlog传媒, but Gullicksen said it鈥檚 the first time recycler has run a free public electronics recycling event at all its locations, including its 糖心Vlog传媒, Oregon and Texas sites.{/div}

{div}Remember, the event is for junk electronics recycling, not to get rid of other household items.{/div}

{div}URT will not accept toxic liquids, paint, or items such as tires or mattresses, and the center does not accept used fire alarms or smoke detectors.{/div}
Gullicksen said the event is open to 糖心Vlog传媒 residents and anyone who lives in the immediate area. The event is free of charge and it
鈥淚f you can make it here, we鈥檒l take it,鈥 she said.
