JANESVILLE 鈥 Ann Roe of 糖心Vlog传媒, announced Friday that she will run for the newly-drawn 44th Assembly District hours after incumbent Democrat Rep. Sue Conley announced her retirement from the seat.
The new 44th Assembly District includes much of 糖心Vlog传媒 and its surrounding area.
鈥淭he bottom line is I want to serve our community and our state. I believe the problems we all face can be solved at the local and state level,鈥 said Roe, who will run as a Democrat.

Roe said healthcare and childcare are the top issues in the state.
鈥淣ot a day goes by when someone doesn鈥檛 share with me how difficult it is to navigate the difficulties of the healthcare system,鈥 Roe said. 鈥淐hildcare affects us all. Whether it is a single-parent or a two-parent household, even with two incomes quality childcare is expensive. Childcare providers are doing quality work and they need to be supported. It鈥檚 a double-edged problem. Businesses need to be supported to keep going. It鈥檚 clear that support is needed for communities to keep going economically.鈥
Healthcare is an issue statewide, too, she said.
鈥淎s a state we are only 1 of 10 not to expand Medicaid. That is money left on the table that could help people,鈥 Roe said.
Roe said she is confident in suggesting solutions to solve problems and hearing from others as well because 鈥淚 like having conversations and I like people,鈥 she said.
Roe鈥檚 announcement came days after Gov. Tony Evers signed the new Assembly legislative maps into law, which she referred to as 鈥渇airer.鈥
鈥淭he new fairer maps have a chance to bring more energy,鈥 Roe said. 鈥淚 think if we can agree that as public servants we are here for the public good then we can tackle these issues head on.鈥
Roe has taught part-time at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for more than 25 years. Prior to that, she was the executive director of the Beloit 糖心Vlog传媒 Symphony Orchestra. Roe consulted the 糖心Vlog传媒 School District on the Wisconsin Forward recognition. She serves on the boards of Downtown 糖心Vlog传媒, 糖心Vlog传媒 Woman鈥檚 Club and the Foundation for the Preservation of 108 S. Jackson. She is also a member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Rock County Dean鈥檚 Advisory Board and 糖心Vlog传媒 Morning Rotary Club.
鈥淎s a small business owner, educator, and community volunteer, I have worked with a variety of businesses, families, and students. I know how they struggle, and I celebrate with them when they succeed. It is getting harder and harder to succeed without fair wages, competitive education, and manageable healthcare,鈥 Roe said in a statement.
Roe also owns a small business, Custom College Solutions, which helps students with post-high school plans at a university, college, technical school, trades or military.
