Sgt. Eric Cisneros and Deputy Logan Shelby of the Rock County Sheriff鈥檚 Office were on duty at Dunkin鈥 on Milton Avenue, but were camped out in the parking lot 鈥 not on the roof. Rock County Sgt. Andrew Reed explained that Dunkin鈥 was willing to continue the association with Cop on a Roof, but had concerns about safety and possible stress to the building鈥檚 roof.
鈥淣ot a problem,鈥 said Cisneros. 鈥淒eputy Shelby and I are here and taking donations for Special Olympics.鈥
One advantage of not being on the Dunkin鈥 roof was being able to show off the sheriff鈥檚 office鈥檚 safety air boat. It was an immediate attraction clearly visible to passing traffic on Milton Avenue.
鈥淭he air boat is a very valuable rescue tool,鈥 Cisneros said. 鈥淚t can be used on ice and waterways that are very shallow which are not accessible to our traditional rescue boats.鈥
The theme for the national Cop on a Roof program is raising funds for Special Olympics 鈥渙ne donut at a time.鈥
Law enforcement officers around the country volunteer their time for what Cisneros called a great organization.
鈥淲e are glad to volunteer for a great cause,鈥 Cisneros said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 also an opportunity for the sheriff鈥檚 office to visit with the public and share our efforts to help the communities we serve. That鈥檚 something that鈥檚 very important for all of us from Sheriff (Curtis) Fell right on down the line.
Shelby said he did not hesitate to volunteer for the event.
鈥淭here are just a few activities as worthwhile as Special Olympics, and I鈥檓 glad I was able to be a part of it,鈥 Shelby said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 also a great opportunity to meet people and just say 鈥榟i鈥欌欌
Those who donated at the Milton Avenue Dunkin鈥 were presented with a coupon for one free classic Dunkin鈥 donut.
