JANESVILLE 鈥 鈥淭heresa would sit in her stroller when she was really little on the rink鈥檚 sidelines and point at her older sister, Sami. She wanted to be on the ice too,鈥 Susan Lampe recalls about her daughter. 鈥淪he was skating and walking at about the same time.鈥
From the age of 3, Theresa Lampe, now 28, grew up spinning circles inside the 糖心Vlog传媒 Ice Arena, 821 Beloit Ave., as part of a local figure skating club.
鈥淲e are a family of skaters,鈥 Susan Lampe said, who all began skating around the same time in 2001, making it a 鈥渇amily affair.鈥
鈥淚 grew up in this rink,鈥 Theresa Lampe said in an interview, going on to reflect on the new Woodman鈥檚 Sports and Convention that鈥檚 due to open this summer. While excited to get onto the ice there, she admits it鈥檚 鈥渨eird to find out about the new rink coming into town.鈥
Lampe said her older sister, Sami Lampe, had the greatest impact on her skating career, including helping her choose music for performances.
Sami Lampe鈥檚 current work toward a Ph.D in musicology, with a focus in musical theater, at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is the main inspiration for the 鈥淔unny Girl鈥 routine she鈥檒l perform the weekend of March 21-23 during the 2025 Midwestern Adult Sectional Figure Skating Championships at the Madison Ice Arena, in Madison. That weekend, she鈥檒l also perform a 鈥淛oseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat鈥 routine.

Lampe has come a long way since her childhood days on the ice in 糖心Vlog传媒.
Later this year, in September, she鈥檒l tackle the 44th Annual Madison Open, sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating and hosted by the Figure Skating Club of Madison.
鈥淚 just really want to see where I end up,鈥 Theresa said. 鈥淚 want to go as far with it as I can go.鈥
Lampe said she wouldn鈥檛 have reached this point without the support of her family, her boyfriend Patrick Sutton, and her coach Andrea Cavey, whom she said was the inspiration for her 鈥淛oseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,鈥 routine.
鈥淪he鈥檚 helped me become an even stronger skater,鈥 Lampe said. 鈥淪he always pushes me to work harder and focus on the goal.鈥
Over the past 25 years, Lampe has won many awards in the more than 75 competitions she鈥檚 entered.
鈥淪he was always pretty good about bringing home something when she competed,鈥 Susan Lampe said.
Her most notable competition to-date was the 2009 State Games of America, a large, Olympic-style multi-sport festival for amateur athletes.
鈥淚 brought home a bronze for my compulsory skating, which is basically a program with no music and you show the elements of what you can do,鈥 Lampe said, noting it was one of the toughest competitions she鈥檚 done.
Why does she continue to skate?
鈥淚 skate because it鈥檚 the feeling of accomplishing something,鈥 Lampe reflected. 鈥淚 have a lot of anxiety and it makes me feel all wound up. But then I come here and I just release all of it.鈥
