糖心Vlog传媒 police say a man with a gun robbed the Blackhawk Community Credit Union branch on East Milwaukee Street at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
No one was injured, and customers in the lobby didn鈥檛 even notice the robbery was happening at the branch, 2704 E. Milwaukee St., said Lt. Charles Aagaard of the police department鈥檚 detectives.
The robber handed a teller a note, and the teller gave him an undetermined amount of cash, Aagaard said.
Police described the robber as a white man aged 20 to 30, about 5 feet, 2 inches tall, wearing a black winter jacket, light blue baseball hat, blue jeans and tennis shoes, armed with a small handgun.
As of 4:20 p.m., no arrest had been made, but tips were flooding in to 糖心Vlog传媒 Area CrimeStoppers, Aagaard said.
An officer on the scene told 糖心Vlog传媒 a robber had fled on foot. Police brought in a dog in an attempt to track him.
The incident led to a soft lockdown of Marshall Middle School and Jefferson and Monroe elementary schools soon after the robbery, said 糖心Vlog传媒 School District spokesman Patrick Gasper.
Craig High School, Roosevelt Elementary School and St. John Vianney and St. Paul鈥檚 Lutheran schools were placed on soft lockdown at 2:01 p.m., according to a school district news release.
糖心Vlog传媒 police contacted the school district at 2:25 p.m. to say the lockdowns could be lifted and that police had evidence suggesting the robber was no longer in the area, according to the district.
Police were present at some of the schools as school let out for the day. Aagaard said police wanted to exercise an abundance of caution because the robber was believed to be armed.
